USD 102 Patrons, Family & Friends,
It
is a great time to be a part of the Cimarron & Ensign communities. The
weighted enrollment of our district has increased 10 of the last 11 years including
6 years in a row. This growth has been an issue the USD 102 Board Of
Education has discussed for 2 years. In October of 2008 the Kansas Association
of School Boards (KASB) was hired to conduct a survey of the number of first
grade students in our future classes. The first “group” is this year’s
Kindergarten group and KASB was very accurate with their estimate. The
report shows an increase of several students over the next 3-4 years. With
this information and the continued use of the double classroom modular building,
the Board OF Education has adopted a $5.3 Million proposed addition to be placed
on a ballot. The addition would add 10 regular sized classrooms, 1 smaller
classroom and it would separate the cafeteria & PE classroom. This
addition would allow USD 102 to have Pre-School services, All Day Kindergarten
(if it is fully funded by the State), and additional sections of each grade
1st through 6th grade.
The
bond for the High School building will end in 2014 which makes this an opportune
time to go to the public with this proposal. The $5.3 Million addition
would be a minimal increase in property taxes, due to the high school bond
ending. With the increase in student numbers, all-time low interest rates,
and the high school bond ending, this is an excellent time for the Board Of
Education to consider this plan and have the patrons of USD 102 vote on this
important issue.
Thank
you for your continued and unwavering support of the schools in
USD 102.
