A Message from CES Principal, Rocky Stewart

Inserted Image  Rocky Stewart, elementary principal

As we are ready to embark on the 2020-2021 school year we do so with many unknowns about how the year will begin and how classes will look as we continue to serve our students throughout the year. I am updating this message from the principal and will give you information as I have it on July 23rdknowing it could change at any time. I will continue to update this site as I receive new information. As we begin classes with students in August there will be several things that will be the new normal. Students will wear face coverings, temperatures will be checked upon entering the building, we will practice social distancing, pick up and drop off procedures will change, and lunchroom procedures will look a bit different. However, our goal of educating all students and preparing them to be productive citizens will remain intact.

Cimarron Elementary School, located in Cimarron, Kansas, serves
grades Pre-kindergarten through 6thgrade. Our September 20th enrollment
number for the 2019-2020 school year was 376 students.

Cimarron Elementary is proud of the academic excellence it has
demonstrated over a long period of time. We look forward to moving
ahead with the rigorous standards that are now in place, and continuing
to show growth.

We will be entering our 5th year of the 5 year cycle of Kansas’s new accreditation system,
KESA (Kansas Education Systems Accreditation). This will be our accreditation year.

We strive every day to provide an environment, which encourages physical
activity and fosters development of a positive self-image and success in
academics and the arts. We offer physical education and music classes
every day for our Kindergarten through 6th grade students. Band classes
are available for 5th and 6th grades. This will also be the first year using Envision Math, which is a new math adoption.

The USD #102 Board of Education is dedicated to keeping our class
sizes small. This year, most if not all, of our classes will be under 20 students.

Our 4th-6th grade classes are in the east wing of our building with the prek-3rdin the west and middle wings. This will be the second year of our kitchen renovation and plumbing update throughout the west and middle wings. There will also be a new parking lot by the time we begin school.

  • Our pre-school programs include a Kansas Four Year Old classroom
with two half day sessions (serving up to 40 students),
pre-school and an Integrated Preschool classroom.
  • We continue with full day kindergarten and are pleased with the results.
  • USD #102 is a member of the Southwest Kansas Area Cooperative
District. The cooperative provides us with our Special Education staff:
Two full-time resource room teachers, school psychologist, speech
pathologist, gifted teacher, and access to physical and occupational therapy and vision
and hearing specialists.
    • CES provides a large library with full-time librarian.
    • CES provides a full-time elementary counselor, Title I
      Reading teacher and ESL teacher.
